Families living under bridge ask Oro gov't for relocation

SOME 23 families living under the bridge in Barangay Tablon are asking for a relocation site as the government prepares to build a dike in the area.

In a meeting of the City Council committee on urban and rural poor, the affected families asked City Councilor Edgar Cabanlas to help them be relocated under the Socialized Housing Program of the city.

This after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) ordered the relocation of the families as they will soon start the flood mitigation project.

The families are willing to relocate the soonest possible, citing dangers in living under the bridge.

Meanwhile, Cabanlas asked the City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD) to conduct a socio-economic survey of the families affected of the project.

On the 2nd Housing Summit held November last year, the number of informal settlers as of August 2018 has reached 51,437.

Also as of last year, the city has acquired a total of 13.3056 hectares, 39 hectares are in the process of acquisition, and the other 37 hectares are for survey.

Informal settlers are those families living in hazardous areas, no-build zones, as well as those affected by government projects facing order for demolition and eviction. (PJ Orias)
