Steel plant donates P100,000 to public school

REAL Steel Corporation (RSC), a steel plant located along Quezon Road in San Simon, recently made a financial donation to Sta. Monica High School (SMHS) as part of its corporate social responsibility.

RSC General Manager Melodie Arellano and Board of Director William Tjondronegoro led the turnover of a check amounting to P100,000 to SMHS principal Sharon Cariño and Math teacher Princess Caren Bautista.

Tjondronegoro said the cash donation is intended to help in the development of the school community, particularly in the construction of a Math garden, which will become part of the educational materials of students.

Different from social programs implemented by the steel plant for its CSRs, Tjondronegoro said they thought of contributing to the educational sector, which is expected to create ripple effect in the community.

"We are hopeful that in our own little ways, we can help create bright and successful children that will become instruments in uplifting the lives of their own families as well as in developing San Simon," he said.

Cariño, for her part, expressed gratitude to RSC for its continuous support and the strong partnership it has established with the school community throughout the years. SSHS has been a recipient of the steel plant's CSR projects.

"What we can assure in return for all their generosity is the assurance that their projects will be maximized to reach their mission of improving the quality of learning of students in their chosen community," she said.
