THE Bridges of Benevolent Initiative Foundation Inc. (BBI) in partnership with the Philippine Amusement Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) and the local government of San Simon, distributed Friday, August 16, relief packs and wheelchairs to residents of the town.

A total of 1,050 indigent residents in San Simon, including senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs), benefitted from the community disaster awareness and rehabilitation program, which is part of BBI's corporate social responsibility.

BBI Board of Trustees member Enix Salvador said among the total number of beneficiaries from the relief goods distribution, 118 are senior citizens and 32 are PWDs, while 20 Simonians received brand new wheelchairs.

Included in the relief packs are different kinds of bread, coffee, sugar and milk, as well as frozen goods and water, which are expected to supplement the daily meals of Simonian beneficiaries, Salvador said.

"BBI is based in Clark but our hearts are never confined in Clark because the helping hands of our boss, Dr. Irineo "Bong" Alvaro, extends to the needy communities in Pampanga and the whole of Central Luzon," he added.

BBI Chief Finance Officer Sherlyn Centeno, for her part, said the activity aims to provide assistance to the indigent residents who are affected by calamities, and also value the importance of senior citizens and PWDs.

She said several more communities in Pampanga, including Apalit, Sasmuan and San Luis, as well as in Zambales, Nueva Ecija, Bataan and Tarlac will also benefit from the same program.

"This is the foundation's way of paying it forward for the blessings and support received by its corporate-hand Midori Hotel and Casino and Aqua Planet in the past year. Personally, this project is also very important to me and Enix because as natives of San Simon, it is an honor to serve our fellow Simonians. And we are very grateful to Dr. Alvaro for giving us that opportunity," she added.

Vice Mayor Leonora Wong, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to BBI, Pagcor and Senator Risa Hontiveros for reaching out to San Simon and providing the assistance much needed by the people.

"We are very grateful that our partnership and the linkages that we established in the past nine years remain beneficial to Simonians and we will continue to seek more projects in my capacity as vice mayor," she said.
