TWO fishermen, who were stranded at sea for three hours, were rescued by crew members of a motor tugboat after their boat was damaged by big waves on Bagacay Point Lighthouse off the coast of Liloan, Cebu Thursday afternoon, August 15, 2019.

Edwin Entero and Eleazar Formentera from Poblacion, Danao City were both safely brought back to land after their boat sank.

Due to big waves, the front portion of their boat was damaged, causing the boat to sink.

The fishermen spent three hours grasping on to their sunken boat.

Second Engineer Dexterious John Benolirao, who was onboard a motor tugboat, said they were from Ormoc City and were on their way to FF Cruz in Mandaue City when they saw the fishermen about a kilometer away.

“Nag-utaw-utaw na sila unya nangamay na sila. Sige na sila og pangamay. Nakit-an na sila namo unya nakit-an sa duty, unya nakit-an ni kapitan ug ni Monin 'nya among gikuanan ni kapitan, giduol namo," Benolirao said.

“They were floating and were waving at us. All of us onboard the tugboat saw them and we approached their direction,” Benolirao said.

Benolirao said the two were visibly shaking after they rescued them.

The Philippine Coast Guard in Mandaue City assisted the two fishermen, who are now in good condition. (Arvie veloso of Superbalita Cebu, JGS)
