Negros cops killers identified

THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas has identified the killers of four members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-Central Visayas whose bodies were found in Barangay Mabato, Ayungon town, Negros Oriental on July 18, 2019.

PRO-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas among those identified is the mastermind.

Dumaguete City prosecutors have filed multiple murder and theft charges against Mitchell "Lakas" Fat, the alleged leader and mastermind, Jojo Ogatis, Victoriano Anadon, Jonathan Baldivino, Rengie Anadon, Gelie Anadon Ebedo, Joseph Ogatis, Danny Tansico, Victoriano Oto Anadon, Ronnie Herebios and a certain "James."

Police have already arrested Victoriano Oto, Jojo, Danny, and Herebios.

According to witnesses, the four police officers -- Police Corporal Relebert Beronio, Patrolman Raffy Callao, Patrolman Roel Cabellon, and Patrolman Marquino de Leon -- were caught off guard when the suspects threatened and stripped them off of their firearms. The suspects brought them to a house in Sitio Yamot, Barangay Mabato.

The four police officers were shot in head.

Sinas said the suspects belonged to a militia group allied with the New People's Army that is operating in rural areas of Ayungon town and other areas in Negros Oriental.

“According sa witness nga katong mga pulis nato giatangan nila tapos didto gikan sa balay ni Oto Andon gitionan ang mga pulis. Wala na dayon makalihok ang mga pulis mao tong gikulata nila,” Sinas said.

The four policemen were killed as the militia group believed that they were agents who will identify who among the residents in the area are rebels.

The NPA rebels were already furious because of the first Oplan Sauron, wherein several of its members were killed and arrested. The slain police officers were allegedly part of that operation.

In the monitoring and background investigation of the PRO-Central Visayas, no cases have been filed yet against the persons identified by police, but they are said to be responsible for the killings and extortion incidents in the entire Negros. (From AYB of Superbalita Cebu/JGS)
