Vegetable disposer shot dead in La Trinidad

LA TRINIDAD police are conducting hot pursuit against two men who shot and killed a vegetable disposer on Thursday, August 15, in Tabangaoen, Barangay Balili.

The vegetable disposer, identified as Jonathan Velasco Santiago, 38, a native of Paykek in Kapangan, Benguet, sustained several gunshot wounds and died on the spot, said police.

Police said the shooting incident happened around 10:50 a.m. after Santiago descended from a cab. He was shot by the assailants who ran toward Upper Tabangaoen in Balili.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered 15 empty shells and several metal fragments from the crime scene.

Police are also reviewing closed-circuit television camera footage from the crime scene.

Disposers or facilitators are those who directly buy the farmers' produce, then clean, sort, pack and sell them to traders. Disposers are also referred to as local middleman in between the farmer and buyer.
