THE Talisay City, Cebu Government wants to construct public libraries in barangays.
The library will be called “Aksyon Agad Learning Center.”
Unlike most of the cities and municipalities in Cebu Province that have only one public library, Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas plans to build a library for a cluster of barangays for the convenience of his constituents, including students. The city has 22 barangays.
Gullas earlier said that giving good education to Talisaynons is among his top priorities. Constructing a public library is one of the best ways to achieve his goal, he said.
The construction of the libraries was discussed during a budget meeting earlier in August 2019.
Gullas wants the libraries as places for students to do research, and hubs for people who love to read books. He also wants to put in place computers with free Internet access.
The mayor said he will ask private companies in the city to help him realize his plan through their corporate social responsibility activities. The companies, he said, may donate computer sets.
