CEBU City’s senior citizens are assured of continued financial aid until the end of 2019.
Mayor Edgardo Labella has forwarded to the City Council a supplemental budget that includes P450 million for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD).
The sum covers the period July to December 2019 for the 75,000 senior citizens registered in Cebu City and for PWDs. They each get P1,000 a month from City Hall.
They have not received their monthly aid for July and August because the previous administration allocated a sum good only until June 2019, a month after the elections were held.
The proposed supplemental budget is up for deliberation by the City Council on its regular session come Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Meanwhile, Cebu City Councilor Lea Japson has authored a resolution requesting the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca) to process new applications of senior citizens who are registered voters as of year 2013.
Before, the considered qualified senior citizens were only those voters as of 2010, but this has already been amended.
The senior citizens receive P12,000 in annual financial aid. (JJL)
