THE Central Visayas Football Association (CVFA) boosted its chance for a spot in the national finals after routing Eastern Visayas Regional Football Association (EVRFA) in the Stars of Tomorrow Boys 15 national tournament.

CVFA got its second straight win after an 11-0 rout of EVRFA on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, on the road to jump to the second spot in Group E. CVFA, which handed the Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) its first loss two weeks ago, now has 10 points with two games left in the tournament organized by the Philippine Football Federation.

Nofa leads the group with 16 points, while Negros Oriental-Siquijor Football Association (Nofa) dropped to third place after a 5-1 loss to Iloilo FA.

Iloilo, which improved to eight points in five matches, is still at fourth place, while winless EVRFA remains last having lost all six games and conceding 40 goals.

With only two games left, only Nofa is assured of a spot in the national finals with CVFA, Nosirfa and Iloilo all fighting for the second spot. Nosirfa will face EVRFA on Aug. 24 and will close out its campaign against CVFA at the Cebu City Sports Center on Sept. 7.

On the other hand, Iloilo will be in a must-win situation when it visits Nofa on Aug. 24 before closing out its campaign with another away assignment against Central Visayas.

The Central Visayas vs. Iloilo match was supposed to be played last Aug. 10 but was moved to a later date due to the bad weather.

Central Visayas, which started with one point in three matches, can finish strong if it wins its final home matches against Nosirfa and Iloilo to end the campaign at 16 points. (ML)
