Rape victim's kin to sue suspect

THE family of a 15-year-old student who was allegedly raped on August 10, at a hotel in Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City, was likely to press rape charges against a 20-year-old suspect.

Police said the victim's family reported the incident on August 14. They were told to have the girl, who is also a grade 9 student, undergo a medical examination.

"Akong giingnan ang mama nga kung mo-file sila og kaso dal-on lang nila ang result sa examination. Hangtod karon wala pa sila makabalik," the Women's and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of police station 4, said over the weekend.

Investigators said the victim's friend invited her to attend his birthday celebration in Barangay Macasandig, believing that the victim's boyfriend was there too since they were all friends.

Police said around six to seven people were there and she was the only girl among the group who were having a drinking spree.

Authorities said when she felt a little tipsy, the birthday celebrator and the suspect offered her a ride home.

However, instead of bringing her home, the two brought her to a hotel. The victim alleged that only one sexually assaulted her.

"Iyang gi-alleged nga dili ang nag-birthday ang nanghilabot sa iya kato ra daw isa ka suspek kay nalooy man daw sa iyaha tong nag-birthday," police said.

Police are just waiting for the family to come back to the police station so that appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect.
