Limlingan: Clearing for progress

WHEN President Rodrigo Duterte assumed the presidency, he immediately declared a war against the illegal drugs. To date, there are still casualties who die on streets because of their alleged involvement in the drug menace.

When the bloody war on drugs commenced, many have realized that the problem on it is very much serious that some lives have to be taken away. The war on drugs was made that serious because the problem was much more serious.

Among the social problems of our country that the President has given priority is on drugs. Today, he has shifted his thrust to some other problems like corruption and the most recent is traffic.

While some say that Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko" Domagoso has started it all and the President is merely aping it, the clearing of roads is doing good for the citizenry especially motorists and pedestrians.

Pres. Duterte has given the ultimatum to all mayors to clear all roads including sidewalks and pathways of obstructions. In response, roads, avenues, alleys and streets are now being cleared of stalls, shops, signages, barriers, tents and other things that obstruct human and vehicular traffic.

You see, everything goes on streets where anything that can be made subject to the commerce of man is sold in sidewalks and roads. Only in the Philippines we can find streets that are convertible into parking lots, stores, shops, pedestrian lanes, among others.

The road clearing directive of the President is gaining popularity from the people and support from local officials who shall be held answerable to the President should they fail to comply. Its good that they are complying.

Meanwhile, Mayor Isko is merely continuing what he has started in his city upon his assumption to office. He has shown much of his political will, shooing away obstructions. In his exercise of such will, he is cleaning the country's capital city while earning admiration.

Yorme Ko-Is is definitely making himself as an example to other local chief executives who should exercise such power that is backed-up by the will to implement the law.
