SunStar starts strong in NBAC

DEFENDING champion ToughGear SportsWear/SunStar Cebu was off to a hot start in the 2019 Newsmen Basketball Association of Cebu (NBAC) 2nd Conference with a convincing 60-43 victory over the dySS/dyRT on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019 at the Cebu Coliseum.

SunStar Cebu immediately pounced on dySS/dyRT, taking on a 24-6 lead after a quarter. SunStar Cebu’s domination continued as the lead ballooned to 38-12 at halftime.

It was in the third quarter that dySS/dyRT found its rhythm, outscoring SunStar Cebu, 17-4, to trim down the lead to 42-29.

But SunStar Cebu regained its composure in the final quarter with a total team effort for a one-sided win.

Philip Cerojano led SunStar Cebu with 20 points, while Richie Clavecillas added 17.

Gabriel Bonjoc scored 20 for dySS/dyRT.

On the other hand, the Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN-47) and the Brigada FM were also victorious in their respective season openers.

CCTN-47 squeaked past Manila Bulletin/ABS-CBN, 49-46. Ricky Candia had 16 points for the winning team, while Niel Nadela scored 16 points in a losing effort for MB/ABS-CBN

Brigada FM, in the meantime, destroyed GMA 7, 80-57.

Ranel Embalzado scored 18 points for Brigada, while Julius Vidal was the highest scorer for GMA 7.
