Oro couple faces parricide charges for burying baby

POLICE on Monday, August 19, have formally filed parricide and violation of sanitation code or Presidential Decree (PD) 856 against a couple who buried their nine-month-old baby beside their house in Pasil, Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Major Ian Borinaga, police station 4 chief, said the couple, Bonifacio Enderes and Marilou Quibol were brought to the Prosecutor’s Office for the inquest proceedings.

He said the prosecution has yet to release a resolution as of Tuesday morning.

“Gahulat pa mi sa resolution sa fiscal (We are still waiting for the resolution from the fiscal),” Borinaga said, adding that parricide is a non-bailable offense.

However, Borinaga said parricide charges may not be carried because the baby’s cause of death could no longer be determined.

He said the parents buried their baby, Mart Enderes, last July 18, after the latter died due to a supposed fever, as claimed by the father. His skeletal remains was only discovered on August 15.

“Ingon sa Soco dili na ma-autopsy kay bukog na dili na ma-determine unsa ang cause of death. Nag advise ang Soco nga ipa-DNA to determine kung ang bata ilaha ba gyud (The Scene of the Crime Operatives [Soco] said the remains cannot be autopsied since these are only bones. The Soco advised to have a DNA test to determine if the baby is theirs),” Borinaga said.

Borinaga said the three other children of the couple were under the custody of the barangay’s social welfare office.

On the other hand, the couple remains under detention at the headquarters of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office.
