SO THAT more spectators can witness its comeback after six years, the Provincial Government is opening the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019 to the general public.
In an interview on Monday, Aug. 19, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said the Capitol will not be selling tickets for the return of the “festival of festivals,” which will be held at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
“There were suggestions to sell the tickets, but I said ever since, Pasigarbo has been a free event,” she said.
A flagship tourism and culture program of Garcia during her earlier stint as governor, Pasigarbo sa Sugbo is an annual exhibition of festivals participated by towns and component cities in the province.
As it takes center stage again after a six-year hiatus, some 44 component cities and towns will vie for the top prize, which was still being finalized as of this writing.
“Not yet. I am still undecided, depending on the quality of the performance, if it’s worth over a million. From what I’ve heard, they’re working very hard on their practices. No one wants to be runner-up. Everyone wants to be proclaimed champion,” Garcia said.
Participants include the towns of Sogod, Moalboal, Badian, Dumanjug, Bantayan, Samboan, Malabuyoc, Aloguinsan, Santa Fe, Carmen, Santander, Argao, Tuburan, San Francisco, Cordova, Ronda, Borbon, Asturias, Liloan, Minglanilla, Daanbantayan and Barili.
Other participants include the towns of San Remigio, Poro, Sibonga, Madridejos, Alegria, Alcoy, Balamban, San Fernando, Tabogon, Dalaguete, Pinamungajan, Ginatilan, Oslob, Consolacion and Medellin. The cities of Bogo, Carcar, Mandaue, Naga, Talisay and Toledo will also be joining.
The Capitol has invited mayors and vice mayors, regional and provincial directors of government agencies and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to the event.
The Presidential daughter, though, won’t be able to attend because she will be out of the country.
A street dancing will kick off the event from the Capitol grounds at 1 p.m. before the contingents will proceed to the CCSC.
