Amoguis sisters strike again

AMOGUIS sisters, Lora Micah and Liaa Margarette, of The Abbas Orchard School Davao emerged most bemedaled tankers in their respective categories at the close of the 2019 Kadayawan Festival Inter-School and Masters Competition held recently at the Fr. Rodolfo A. Malasmas SJ swimming pool, Ateneo de Davao University, Matina, Davao City.

Lora garnered a total of 42 points in girls 13-14 division to prevail over Caitleen Danielle San Felix of Ateneo de Davao University (31) and Rissa Angelian Sahagun (28) who placed second and third, respectively, in the individual ranking.

The 13-year-old Lora swept the girls 13-14 50-meter backstroke, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle golds. She also salvaged a bronze in 50m breaststroke.

She said, “I felt happy because I’m not really good at swimming short distance which was a challenge for me. I also did continuous events which was tiring but I had my friends to support me and motivate me that I can finish the competition.”

Marga, 12, for her part, harvested five golds in girls 11-12 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 50m breastroke and 50m freestyle events for a total of 45 points.

“Well, short distance likes 50s are not my strongest event like I’m used to swimming long distance swim, but I’m happy that I get to swim in the Kadayawan competition especially it’s my last in 11-12 and I have to compete my sister next year. I’m just grateful my coach trained me even though short distance is not my strongest,” Marga told SunStar Davao.

She thanked her family for supporting her during the swimfest and God for answering her prayers.

She outclassed Ateneo de Davao University’s Jewell Diana Tubianosa (30) and Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Central Elementary School’s Stacey Requiza (25).

Colegio de San Ignacio’s 13-year-old Ivo Nikolai Enot, for his part, tallied 41 points to rule the boys 13-14.

The rest of the outstanding swimmers: Ckryztyn Leonardo of Infant Jesus Sch of Bukidnon (girls eight and under), Ethan Ambrose Gabatilla of UPC Christian School Inc. (boys eight-under), Jeizella Trisha Ardepuela of Nabunturan National High School (girls 9-10), Zeed Eugene Daquepel of Don Mariano Marcos Elementary School (boys nine-10),

Pietro Dominic Requiza of Davao City Nationla High School

(boys 11-12), Maiki Samantha Gonzaga of Addu (girls 15-16),

Philip Adrian Sahagun of The Abbas Orchard School Davao (boys 15-16), Be Jessica Villanueva of Philippine Science High School Mindanao (girls 17-18), Enzo Izak Ben Malayang of Infant Jesus School of Bukidnon (boys 17-18), Juan Antonio Mendoza of the University of Southeastern Philippines (boys 19-29) and Haroon Cali (boys 30 and over).

Unopposed entries were Kristine Joy Dasargo (girls 30 and over) and Gillian Malilong (girls 19-29).

Organizers awarded trophies and medals in the swimfest presented by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office.
