POLICE now have a person of interest in the death of an alleged investment scam artist whose body was found in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban, Cebu last Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

Police Major Christian Torres, Balamban police chief, said after the discovery of the body of Armando Oppus last Tuesday, August 21, a number of people have messaged the police through the station's official Facebook page about the alleged involvement of a Davao City-based policeman in the murder.

Torres said the police officer, who went absent without official leave (Awol), reportedly invested a huge sum to Oppus, but the latter reportedly ran off with his money.

Torres said they will coordinate with their colleagues in Davao City to check if the police officer is still in active duty or is still in Awol status.

He added that according to netizens, Oppus arrived in Cebu with more than a million pesos in cash.

Based on information the police gathered, Torres believes that Oppus's illegal activities involving large-scale estafa may have led to his murder.

He admitted that until now, Oppus's relatives have not approached their station to claim the body, which is being kept in one of the town's funeral homes. (SunStar Cebu)
