Zamboanga City joins Batang Pinoy National Finals

A LOCAL sports official is optimistic the athletes of Zamboanga City will excel in six athletic categories in the Batang Pinoy National Finals in Palawan.

City sports development officer Dr. Cecilia Atilano, in her statement, said this city has sent a 160-man delegation to the athletic competition that will reel-off on Sunday, August 25.

Atilano said the local athletes are expected to shine in karatedo, pencak silat, weightlifting, wrestling, arnis, and archery.

The games in the Batang Pinoy National Finals are as follows: archery, arnis, athletics, chess, boxing, dancesport, judo, futsal, karatedo, pencak silat, swimming, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.

Atilano said the local athletic delegation to the Batang Pinoy National Finals departed on Wednesday to Palawan. The athletic competition starts August 25, and ends August 30.

She said the delegation consisted of coaches and athletes 15 years old and below, who will compete in different sports competition.

She added that the local athletes in Zamboanga have already seen action in the Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg held in February, this year, in Tagum City, Davao Norte. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
