Town eyes 50 trekkers for Summer ed Kapangan

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Councilor Manny Fermin is eyeing a full packed “Summer ed Kapangan.”

The scheduled two-day trek aims for a full 50 participants from all over the country.

The highlights of the event will include camping at the Amburayan River with night fishing on March 16.

Tour itineraries include: a visit to the Burcio’s Anthurium Farm, a visit of town’s one-town-one-product Municipal Livelihood Center, Bermuda grass of Taba-ao Elementary School and a gold panning.

Last year the Anitap Festival held the “Du vat ni Peshit” ritual signaling the start of a grand canao in the highland town.

Festival coordinator Rose White said the Anitap will start on March 17, included in the “Summer ed Kapangan” package.

White said elders of the town will still meet to discuss what rituals can be performed for the annual festival which is now on its second year.

The festival, to be sponsored by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts, will highlight a cultural parade, a tallak dance, ginalti, tongatong, yapyap, and badiw,

Fermin said the town is ready to celebrate after the typhoons of 2009 closed roads leading to the cancellation of a Yuletide festival.

“We are ready for a celebration now, all roads are open,” Fermin said.
