Grilled right for you

JUST along the corner of Escario St., Cebu City is where a small, unassuming hole-in-the-wall gourmet sausage and burger joint from Poblacion, Makati, is tucked—baking fresh breads, grilling tasty sausages and grinding fresh beef patties every day.

This new food place in Metro Cebu is called Three Guys and a Grill, and is owned by Tom Thurnherr (Swiss), Duncan Gates (Kiwi) and Frank Shrope (Filipino-American) who share a passion for grilled food, together with their local partner in Cebu, Jai Mauro. It offers big-sized gourmet burgers and hotdogs with emphasis on quality, simplicity and taste using naturally sourced ingredients and homemade sauces in a small, black-colored joint.

The idea started when the trio wanted to have authentic sausages in the country, then letting the locals and foreigners taste their own creations.

“We want to make quality sausages available to everyone, most especially Filipinos,” said Duncan.

After much conceptualization and experimentation, the three guys perfected their recipe. The homemade sauce and ketchup were made by them using ingredients such as organic honey from Davao and molasses from Bicol, while the mustard has a mixture of guava and honey from Bukidnon—making it more flavorful and fitting for Filipino palates. Also, one can even choose between wheat or white bread for their ‘dogs.

Three Guys and a Grill boasts its best-selling European-style hotdogs which are not the same as the usual overloaded sloppy sandwiches.

There’s the “Bird Dog,” a curry chicken sausage with Sriracha mayonnaise to add some slight amount of heat, grilled onions, sliced pickles and

homemade ketchup; “Posh Dog,” a German Pork Bratwurst with truffle honey mustard, grilled onions and cheese; and “Duncan Dog,” a two pork grillers with guava mustard, grilled onions, cheese, sliced pickles and homemade ketchup.

The burgers include “Tommy Burger” made of pure beef patty, toasted potato bun, crisp lettuce, onion, tomato, cheddar cheese, and its special sauce; “Angang Burger,” “Double Tommy Burger,” to name a few.

“Here, the focus is really on the meat. The toppings and sauces are just add-ons to add more flavor to our offerings and all of these are grilled right for you,” said Tom.

Satisfy your grilled food cravings and grab some midnight snacks at Three Guys and a Grill in Cebu, open daily from 12 noon until 12 midnight.
