Search continues for missing teens

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The search and rescue teams remain positive they will find the two missing teens, Harvey Rufino and Rommel Tadena, in Wangal.

The search operation continued Friday, August 23, 11 days after Rufino and Tadena went missing.

The operation has been conducted by members of the La Trinidad Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and accredited community disaster volunteers.

Elgin Bulcio, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) I, said they have asked the aid of neighboring barangays Ambiong, Poblacion and Bineng to respond to the area.

Searchers were down to 33 on Friday, with the Wangal responders taking a rest following their consecutive search, while Bineng responders were tapped as they are more familiar with the Balili River.

A K9 unit was also present onsite searching from Nayuno, where the Tuel and Balili rivers meet, to Dam 3.

The two missing teenagers, who were onboard a motorcycle, crossed the bridge in Gayasi River in the evening of August 13. The strong water current, however, already engulfed the bridge due to heavy rains. The two were swept by strong current.

Days after the incident, the victims' jacket and helmet, as well as a motor oil and backpack were found.
