MULTI-AWARDED dyEZ Aksyon Radyo, one of the pioneers in the broadcast industry in Bacolod City, Negros Accidental celebrated its golden year (50th anniversary) recently in Bacolod City.

The celebration was led by its station manager Nona Dema-ala Magbanua and the Aksyon Radyo anchor and news team Fred Salanga, Wilma Sugaton, Rex Cantong, Art Tayhupon, Eric Magbanua, Renato “Boy” Duran, Marlon Genovea, Bryan Morden, Dorel Cabatu, John Dale Salazar, Mae Ann Defensor, Lourd John Diaz and several others.

The news team vowed to continue serving their valued listening audience in any issues and incidents that involve public welfare.

Based on the information provided by Google, Aksyon Radyo first started operations from the administrative building of the then Elizalde-owned Central Azucarera De La Carlota in the 1960s.

The small community radio station, originally having the call sign of dyEN, hosted some of the pioneer broadcasters in the province until the declaration of Martial Law when it was closed down. Several years later, it resumed operations as dyEZ and became the dominant news and music station before the proliferation of FM stations.

This was known at that time as DYEZ Sunshine City Bacolod, the localized version of Manila’s DWIZ (now owned by Aliw Broadcasting Corporation) used at that time as Sunshine City.

By the 1980s, dyEZ shifted its programming to full-time news and public affairs. With it came the change of name – from Radyo Balita to Radyo Owang – until finally settling on what is widely perceived as the most the appropriate name for a dynamic news and public affairs station: Aksyon Radyo.
