FOUR persons, including a pedicab driver, were nabbed in a drug bust that yielded P9.1 million worth of “shabu” in Sitio Viking, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City at dawn Friday, Aug. 23, 2019.
In the past 44 days, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has recorded an P83 million drug haul.
As to the Viking buy-bust, Benerando Gemperoso Jr., 27; Joven Gemperoso, 29; Beverlyn Gemperoso Medina, 26; and Regie Medina, 29, were arrested by the operatives of the Labangon police, City Drug Enforcement Unit and City Intelligence Branch.
CCPO Director Gemma Vinluan said the operation’s subject was Benerando, who had been included in Central Visayas’ unified drug watchlist.
She defended the arrest of three other persons, who were caught inside the house of the target.
“In the concept of illegal drug operations, even those persons who are outside the targeted place can also be arrested should there be a drug bust,” said Vinluan, who added that those persons who are inside the house during the buy-bust should also be arrested.
The city prosecutor, she said, will weigh the evidence against the three men.
“The mere fact that they were there.... there was an illegal drug transaction, and (they) have done nothing before the transaction.(Then they) were an accomplice of the crime,” Vinluan said.
Authorities seized 53 large packs, or some 1.3 kilos of “shabu.”
Vinluan believes that several drug transactions happened in Benerando’s house before his arrest.
“He is not an ordinary drug pusher. I believe he is selling to shabu retailers as well,” she said.
Benerando was reportedly tight-lipped when the police asked him about his suppliers and his contacts, who could include a detainee from a jail facility.
Complaints for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspects. (WBS)
