FOR the early part of the year, there were reports from the weather bureau about a weak El Niño affecting the country, which had led to drought in some provinces and widespread water supply problems (up until now), possibly extending until the end of 2019. However, the climate seems to have changed its mind and proceeded with the “rainy season” as typically scheduled. Rainy days could be considered bad weather or otherwise—depending on one’s mindset—and there are activities that are conducive to this kind of weather. Here’s what our readers usually do while it’s raining cats and dogs.

“When it is raining, I often like to be as unproductive as possible—just lying on my bed with my phone or a book. There’s just something with the rain that just makes me not want to get out of my bed. And I think a lot of people do too.” —Piolo Maurice Laudencia, 18, architecture student (Lyceum of the Philippines-University Cavite)

“For me, I do love to visit nature every now and then, or go to the beach for paddling activities—even on rainy days. In that way, I’ll be able to exercise and remove my stress.” —Elka Nacalaban, 24, entrepreneur

“I love to listen to music when it’s raining. Cold weather paired with relaxing music calms my mood and helps me focus on my tasks for the day.”

—Iyan Anthony Lim, 26, dentist

“One thing I’d like to do on a rainy day is just stay in bed. The sound of the rain outside is very relaxing and it’s also a good time to de-stress.”

—Jennica Curato, 24, 7th placer, June 2019 Architecture Licensure Examination
