NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Guillermo Eleazar urged netizens to use their social media account to report on police scalawags and share about officers who deserve to be rewarded for their good deeds.
Eleazar said his office has been actively monitoring social media as part of the implementation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) internal cleansing program.
“Your NCRPO is now social media active. In fact, we were able to monitor, identify and punish or reward our policemen through the photos and videos posted and shared in various social media platforms," he said.
The NCRPO chief noted the importance of cooperation and participation of the netizens in improving police operations in Metro Manila.
He said the cops’ good practices being shared online may serve as inspiration to other policemen to do the same.
"These are all about the future of their security and the future of peace and order in Metro Manila. They could do a lot in transforming the police organization into a professional police force, a police force with true sense of courage, public service and integrity," said Eleazar.
"Our goal is for every policeman to have a real sense of the meaning of integrity, that is, doing what is good and right even if no one is looking," he added.
He also said several officers have been reprimanded based on complaints via social media.
For instance, he said a policeman who bullied a call center agent in San Juan and a policeman who blocked and poked a gun at a motorist in Quezon City were relieved from their posts and are now facing administrative charges.
Eleazar also cited the policeman who chased a thief in Manila City as well as the officer who prevented a man from killing himself in Parañaque City.
Both policemen became awardees of the newly-launched Pulis Magiting Program of the NCRPO.
"While we are quick in punishing abusive policemen, we are also quick in rewarding those who deserve award," said Eleazar.
He said it was the rationale behind the recently-launched Intensified Cleanliness Program (ICP) of the NCRPO which he describes as a “blueprint of peace and order policy for Metro Manila.”
Eleazar said the ICP has three basic tenets: cleanliness in police offices and their surroundings, cleanliness within the police ranks and cleanliness of Metro Manila from crime and illegal drugs.
"The NCRPO has a lot of good stories to tell to the public. We also want the public to let them be known in order to inspire our men, to boost their morale and to emphasize our point that there are only few bad eggs in our organization. And these bad eggs who tarnish the name of the police are the subject of our disciplinary actions and purging," said Eleazar.
