Palace declares August 27 a holiday in Minalin

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte declared August 27, Tuesday, a special non-working holiday in Minalin town in line with the celebration of the town's 405th founding anniversary.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by authority of Duterte, signed Proclamation No. 797 on Friday, August 23, which formally declared the holiday exclusive in this town.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Municipality of Minalin be given full opportunity to celebrate and with the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” the proclamation noted.

Mayor Edgar Flores expressed gratitude to Duterte for recognizing, through the proclamation of holiday, the founding anniversary of Minalin.

He stressed that the local government, together with civic organizations, had slated activities to celebrate and imbibe to the youth the town's rich history and culture.

Minalin, which is included in the province’s fourth legislative district, is referred to as the “Egg Basket of Central Luzon” because of its large-scale production of eggs and poultry products.

It is also a home for the 400-year-old Santa Monica Parish Church that boasts a unique pre-colonial architectural motif alongside its European Catholic iconography.

The town's annual celebration of “Aguman Sanduk” every New Year’s Day is among the most-anticipated events for residents and local and foreign tourists, who come to watch straight (heterosexual) men dress up as beautiful ladies while parading along the streets.
