THE Bacolod City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) passed a resolution asking the City Council to declare the Communist Party of the Philippines and New People's Army (CPP-NPA) as persona non grata.

Vice Mayor El Cid Famaliaran, who presided the CPOC meeting last week, said Saturday, August 24, that the move was requested by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Bacolod.

He said the approved resolution will be forwarded to the City Council and it will be up to its members whether to approve it or not.

"This will be referred to the committee on police matters on our next regular session and it will depend on the deliberation of the City Council," he added.

In May, BCPO Director Henry Binas also asked the City Council to declare the CPP-NPA as persona non grata.

Binas earlier noted that some local government units (LGUs) in the areas of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao already declared the CPP-NPA as persona non grata.

He said the declaration was made, citing the continued acts of violence, terrorism, violent extremism and other forms of lawlessness, oppression, and harassment of the communist insurgents to the people.

"Said acts are manifestation that the communist insurgents only bring extreme poverty and misery to the people," he added.
