Sangil: D for discipline, C for considerate

THE brothers Lazatin, Congressman Jonjon and Mayor Pogi were photographed while discussing the construction of a bypass road which will still start in Barangay Pulung Maragul and will wind up at the EPZA area in Pulung Cacutud. If the bypass road will be finished next year, it will be a great sigh of relief for tens of thousands of commuters coming to and from Angeles City.

Presently, the traffic gridlock is caused by a two-lane road and connected by a two-lane bridge, plus illegal structures fronting a public school in the Pulung Cacutud area. And include those making left and right turns to Barangay Sapalibutad. Commuters from Magalang town have been suffering for so long.

My daughter lawyer Catherine whose residence is in Punta Verde Subdivision has long been complaining and has been suffering the bumper to bumper situation in that stretch from Marquee Mall to her house. She is just one of the tens of thousands maybe cursing on the bad situation.

So who would not be pissed off if you have to experience daily heavy traffic? Each working day we see common workers waiting long hours on the road, missing their appointments and get irritated by undisciplined drivers who weave in and out and wanted to be ahead of everybody. And it’s worse in Metro Manila. Despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build” program, gridlocks will remain a problem.

Methinks it will remain a problem in Angeles City and many other urban towns in Pampanga. If the 3 Es are not effected and observed: engineering, enforcement and education. What is really needed are D and C. D for discipline and C for considerate. Most tricycle and motor cycle drivers are the worst kind in the streets. What is so annoying is when the traffic enforcers just allow them in their undisciplined and inconsiderate manners on the road.

Now I remember this. In the good old days when I was still in my shorts, my trip from my hometown of Porac to Angeles City only took me few minutes, and got no more than ten vehicles that you will meet on the road. Traveling to Manila was always extremely pleasant, with only two known bus companies plying the route, La Mallorca-Pambusco of the Enriquez and Philippine Rabbit of the Buan and Paras families. There were no tricycles yet competing on the two lane Macarthur Highway. There was no need for a Traffic Enforcement Group. (BTW. Seldom have we seen PNP Highway Patrol Groups patrolling the highways. Why? No gasoline?) Paging General Oca Albayalde.

The many roads now in Pampanga, including Angeles City needed to be replaced, repaired and expanded. The cities of San Fernando, Angeles and Mabalacat and to include Porac, Sta. And Guagua have big volume of vehicles passing through their roads. That’s according to available statistics at the Land Transportation Office.

TIDBITS: McDonald’s in SM Pampanga isn’t serving coffee for almost three months now. It claims their coffee machine is not working. The suspicion is that it was a way of discouraging senior citizens who sit there for long hours. San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago already requested the management to repair or buy another one and allow the seniors to while their time there. BTW. They buy burgers and other products of the store...

Aaron Montenegro SM Pampanga mall manager called me up and said he will bring the issue to the McDonald’s management in Manila...Credit Clark Development Corporation Vice President Alveen Tabag for the widening of the roads in the Clark Freeport. CDC president Noel Manankil is forward looking. He knows in 15 to 20 years the current roads must be expanded to accommodate the volume of vehicles which will treble in numbers.
