THE local government of Apalit is bent on reaching out to its constituents as it held its second Barangay People’s Day in Paligui village on Friday morning, August 23.

Several services such as medical consultation, dental check-up and tooth extraction as well as other social services which benefited senior citizens, solo parents and persons with disability were offered during the said activity.

Aside from these, the Civil Registry Office offered free registration of birth, marriage and death certificate, while the Municipal Agricultural Office provided assistance to local farmers on their agriculture-related concerns, while seminars and livelihood trainings were hosted by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and Public Employment Office.

Mayor Oscar Tetangco, Jr. said the activity, conducted every Friday, is aimed at bringing government services closer to the people by downloading it to the barangay communities.

“As much as the local government wanted to serve all of its constituents at the municipal hall, we still have kabalens who do not have time or cannot afford to go to us and that is what the Barangay People’s Day wants to address. We wanted to let them know and experience that government is for the people,” he said.

He added that Barangay People’s Day will also be conducted in the ten remaining villages in town after Calantipe and Paligui to ensure that all Apaliteños will be able to avail of the services offered by the government.

Vice Mayor Peter Nucom, for his part, noted the importance of the parenting seminar offered during the Barangay People’s Day and in school communities to help develop the relationship of parents and their children.

The seminar, hosted by lawyer Corazon David, aims to inform parents of their responsibilities and obligations in guiding their children to become better members of the society, Nucom added.

“The seminar provides additional knowledge to our parents on how to better raise their children so that they will be able to finish their studies and help them become better citizens,” he said.

Moreover, Nucom said that municipal council is in full support of such activities that are intended to develop the social welfare of the people, as well as their relationship between the local government.
