STATE weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued flood advisories and placed 15 areas in Bicol and northern Luzon under storm signal number 1 as Tropical Depression Jenny approaches.
At 4 p.m. Monday, August 26, the severe weather system was spotted at 670 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.
It is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h. It is moving northwest at 25 km/h.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, eastern portion of Pangasinan, northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Island, and Catanduanes.
TCWS No. 1 may also be raised over Ilocos Norte, Babuyan Islands, and the rest of Pangasinan in the next Pagasa bulletin.
These areas may expect moderate to heavy rains and winds of 30 to 60 km/h in 36 hours.
Eastern Visayas will also have light to moderate rains rains due to Jenny between Monday and Tuesday, August 27.
Central Visayas and Western Visayas will experience light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday, August 28.
Other areas that will be affected are starting Tuesday are Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the rest of Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.
Meanwhile, Pagasa issued flood advisories for Calabarzon, Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions at 6 p.m. Monday.
