Manila -- Davao City tankers delivered what the tracksters failed to accomplish as Day 1 action of the Batang Pinoy 2019 National Championships went full blast in Puerto Princesa, Palawan Monday, August 26.

Lora Micah Amoguis and Pietro Dominic Requiza struck for gold medals in their respective divisions at the Ramon Mitra Sports Complex.

Amoguis, 13, of The Abbas Orchard School, clocked two minutes and 32.28 seconds to rule the girls 13-15 200-meter individual medley (IM) event over Cotabato Province’s Jie Angela Mikaela Talosig and Laguna Province’s Roz Ciaralene Encarnacion who finished second and third, respectively.

Talosig timed 2:33.25 to bag the silver while Encarnacion (2:33.27) salvaged the bronze in the event that drew a total of 16 entries.

Requiza, for his part, registered 1:01.77 to pocket the boys 12 and under 100m freestyle gold while Troy Castor (1:01:77) of Negros Occidental got the silver and Rain Andrei Tumulac of Davao del Norte (1:04.50) ended up with the bronze.

Amoguis’ younger sister Liaa Margarette, for her part, annexed a silver in girls 12-under 200m IM and a bronze in 100m butterfly.

Two-time Palarong Pambansa gold medalist and girls secondary 800m freestyle record holderJuliana Marien Villanueva, meanwhile, copped a silver in the same event in girls 13-15 while Ivo Nikolai Enot had a bronze in boys 13-15 50m backstroke.

In beach volleyball, the D’artagnan Yambao-coached girls team grabbed its debut win against Tanawan, 21-15, 21-15. His spikers will collide with Mandaluyong at 9 a.m. today.

However, Davao bowed to Negros Occidental, 13-15, 25-19, 10-15, in girls indoor volleyball.

Dabawenyo bets also also failed to reach the finals in boys and girls 800m run topped by James Bryle Ballester of Laguna Province and Lheslie De Lima of Camarines Sur.

But Batang Pinoy Mindanao 2019 overall champion 394-member Davao City delegation showed its full force during the parade of delegations of the Batang Pinoy National Championships 2019 opening ceremonies held Sunday, which was graced by Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.

Irish Ortiz of the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO), in a Facebook interview yesterday, said, “Biggest delegation daw po tayo sabi ng PSC staff).”
