Alvarez: Ushering my daughter to adulthood

MY DAUGHTER did not want a debut party, she said it would be better for her to travel and see beautiful places. But I insisted and told her that I want her to feel that unforgettable adult breakthrough. But is that really the reason why I would like her to experience a debut party?

In my heart, I knew the reasons. I want Bea to remember all those childhood charms that filled us with joy and luck. I want her to feel she is very special as she begins the age of discovery, to touch the sky and stars, dance with the fairies, and celebrate the day as she begins to own her destiny.

A daughter indeed although grown-up will always be little girls to their parents. They will always be the image of their parent’s past, present, and future. And there is nothing mothers would like to see but their smiles and nothing they rather wish to hear but their laughters. Mothers may not say it always, but the love between a mother and daughter is forever.

“Anak, you can only be 18 one time. Mama just wanted you to experience the absolute best day of your existence. And from now on, please don’t be afraid to cry. Cry when you need to and find strength in your tears. Remember to stop fighting for a love when you’re standing in the ring alone. Learn to know the hints and move on,” I told her.

Oftentimes, when I doubted for miracles, I simply look at Bea’s eyes and then I would realize we already have the greatest miracle in our family. I just wish to God that Bea will have the ability to see herself the same way I see her. Only then will she truly find out, how special she is to us.
