Ranking CPP official arrested in Quezon City

AUTHORITIES arrested on Monday, August 26, the secretary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) Metro Manila Regional Party Committee.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Albayalde identified the arrested communist leader as Esterlita Suaybaguio.

He said Suaybaguio was arrested at around 1:50 a.m. in her unit in Escalades Condominium Tower in 20th Avenue, Cubao, Quezon City.

A joint police and military team, armed with a warrant, swooped down on Suaybaguio's condominium to search for illegal firearms and explosives.

Allegedly recovered from Suaybaguio were one 9mm pistol, one magazine assembly with seven rounds of ammunition, one hand grenade and subversive documents.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Guillermo Eleazar said they applied for a search warrant after receiving intelligence information from their military counterparts.

The official said Suaybaguio was a professor in Tagum City, Davao del Norte and served as secretary of the Southern Mindanao Regional Party Committee and Komisyon Mindanao (KOMMID).

She transferred to Metro Manila a few months ago after she was chosen by the CPP's Central Committee to jumpstart and lead efforts to revive the communist movement in the nation's capital.

Eleazar said upon conducting background investigation, they found that Suaybaguio is also facing charges of multiple murder, multiple frustrated murder and mutuple attempted murder. (SunStar Philippines)
