DPWH urged to inspect school's drainage system

BACOLOD City Representative Greg Gasataya urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to inspect the drainage system at Sum-ag National High School (SNHS) in the city.

Gasataya, who attended an activity at SNHS on Friday, August 23, said Sunday, August 25, that some areas at SNHS experienced flooding following heavy rains on Friday.

"I can't take looking at education institutions on this state. I will request the DPWH to evaluate, assess and make necessary recommendations on how to resolve the drainage problem," he said.

He added he was surprised after seeing the stagnant water surrounding the school. The area is generally lower than the road level and surrounded by subdivisions and rice fields.

Gasataya noted that he will also ask the National Government to allocate budget to fund the drainage problem at SNHS based on the DPWH's recommendations.

The SNHS principal, including teachers, also expressed their gratitude to Gasataya for addressing their drainage problem.

Meanwhile, Gasataya also ordered an investigation on an SNHS Senior High School classroom's ceiling that collapsed on August 7.

Gasataya said the DPWH should investigate and make an appropriate action to avoid similar incidents.

"We should ensure the safety of our students and teachers," he said.
