Ronins escape Dragons

THE 1997 Ronins and the 2005 Chameleons were off to a hot start in their campaigns in the University of San Carlos-North Alumni Basketball Club (USC-NABC) Mayor’s Cup 2019 after winning back-to-back games in Week 2 of competition.

After a convincing win on opening day, the Ronins won their second straight game in Division 1 with a close 62-60 victory over the 1993 Dragons on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019 at the University of San Carlos North Campus gym.

Jake Saturninas yet again led Batch 1997’s charge with 21 points, four rebounds and three steals.

The Chameleons won both their games in the Division 2. The Chameleons walked away with a close 61-58 win over the 2001 Builders on Friday.

Jan Palos had 20 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals.

The Chameleons beat the 2004 Rebels, 51-41, two days later. Mack Campomanes logged a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Chameleons.

In the seniors division, the 1987 Bros defeated the 1982 Golden Warriors, 65-56; the 1986 Siargao Wave Riders squeaked past the 1988 Barakos, 68-65; and the 1990 Titans destroyed the 1991 Bai, 76-41.

In Division 1, the 1998 Sipat won a close 92-88 game over the 1995 Pirates; the 1994 Bulldogs routed the 1992 Little Rascals, 66-55; and the Nintey Niners crushed the Pirates, 66-47.

In Division 2, the 2003 Stallions won against the 2002 Shipmen, 67-57; white the 2000 Millennium Bugs obliterated the 2002 Lions, 84-50.

In Division 3, the 2013 District outclassed the 2007 Waybus, 107-58, while the 2008 Flyboys dominated the 2010 Pioneers. (EKA)
