2 Leyte towns receive P5.1M livelihood grants

THE municipalities of Barugo and Jaro in Leyte have received a total of P5,135,882 livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Eastern Visayas to strengthen the labor programs and projects of the local government units.

Dole Regional Director Yahya Centi said the financial grants are charged under the Dole Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) funds of the region and will benefit 314 people in Barugo and Jaro.

Barugo, through Mayor Ma. Rosario Avestruz, received a total of P3,323,487 for the implementation of three projects for the 187 beneficiaries under Pedicab Drivers of Barugo and Barugo Integrated Carpenters and Fisherfolks Association.

Jaro, under Mayor Rigo Arbas, availed itself of livelihood funds for its three projects amounting to P1,812,395 with 127 beneficiaries from the informal sector, Macanip Integrated Farmers Association and Barraco Agricultural Cooperative, said Dole regional information officer Norma Rae Costimiano Tuesday, August 27, 2019.

She said the funds were distributed on August 16 during its collaborative meeting with the local chief executives of the Second Congressional District of Leyte at Haiyan Hotel and Resort in Tanauan, Leyte.

"We believe this meeting will produce positive results which will put us in a win-win situation -- us being able to deliver our programs and services successfully and you being able to address the needs of your constituents especially in the reduction of poverty," Centi said earlier.

"I'd like to encourage my fellow chief executives to be more active in accessing the various programs of our partner organizations. We should be happy that we have Dole and other agencies to assist us in catering to the different issues and concerns of our clients," added Avestruz.

The awarding of financial grants was also witnessed by Representative Lolita Karen Javier, heads of Dole-Regional Coordinating Council, and the mayors from Barugo, Jaro, Burauen, Capoocan, Dagami, Dulag, Julita, Pastrana and Tunga. (SunStar Philippines)
