MASANTOL -- The Department of Health (DOH)-Central Luzon has awarded various kinds of medicines to the local government here as part of its mandate of ensuring the total health and wellness of the people.
Mayor Danilo Guintu and Municipal Health Officer Dr. Abelardo Algarne personally received the boxes of medicines, which include antibiotics, anti-hypertension, and maintenance drugs for cholesterol and diabetes, that will be distributed to rural health units and 26 barangay health centers in town.
"This is upon the request of the local government for additional medicines to ensure that our barangay health centers, especially those in the remote coastal areas, will have enough supply that can accommodate the needs of the people," Algarne said.
Apart from heeding to the request of the municipal government, Algarne said DOH also provides additional medicines in anticipation to the needs of the people, especially that the typhoon season is up.
"The DOH and its local counterparts in the municipalities have a mandate of providing the health service and supplies needed by the people and one of it is ensuring that there is an availability of medicines whenever needed," he said.
Guintu, for his part, expressed gratitude to DOH and recognized it as one of its partners in providing quality health services and supplies to Masantoleño people.
He said the additional medicines are a boost to the local government's campaign to make every Masantoleño healthy, both physically and mentally, by improving the health centers and empowering its health workers.
"We continue to improve our barangay health centers which provide the immediate healthcare needed by our people in the grassroots while the construction of our very own community hospital is still pending," Guintu said.
He urged his constituents to avail themselves of the medicines when needed, especially senior citizens who spend lot for their maintenance drugs, as they are all available for free in health centers.
