AUTHORITIES in Abra scored anew in the campaign against loose firearm following the arrest of seven gun owners and the confiscation of several firearms and ammunitions in the province during last week’s Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations (Sacleo).
Abra Provincial Police Office (PPO) on August 23 arrested Rogelio Bernales Dumlao, 67, Armed Forces of the Philippines retiree and a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Pilar, Abra; Rodolfo Aban Dait Jr. 52, clerk of court, also a resident of Poblacion, Pilar and Giovanni Lorenzo Mendoza, 33, a resident of Laang, Langangilang, Abra.
Confiscated from their possession are one caliber .45,one caliber .38 revolver, seven assorted magazines, 16 assorted ammunitions, nine assorted empty shells of different caliber, one front and rear sight assembly for M16 rifle and one holster.
On August 21, Ruben Ariota, Romar Franco, Juliemar Ariota and Alvin Barbosa Timbreza, were all nabbed at Supiil, San Juan, while Artemio Blanza Ballera, 42, farmer was arrested at Salideng, Saccaang, Sallapadan.
Items seized were two cal .45 pistol, one homemade gauge 12 shot gun, one homemade cal .22, three magazine assembly for cal .45 and 65 pieces of ammunition for cal .45; two ammunitions for gauge 12 shot gun and two ammos for cal .22 and one holster.
Thirteen assorted firearms and one hand grenade were also surrendered in the region by concerned citizens during the operation.
Brigadier General Israel Ephraim Dickson, Police Regional Office – Cordillera director, lauded operatives of Abra PPO for the successful implementation of search warrants.
“This only shows the sincerity of Abra PPO personnel in performing their sworn mandates, while SACLEO is one of our tools to account loose firearms and neutralize organized crime groups, it is being implemented to keep the communities safe,” Dickson added. SunStar Baguio
