3 dead in road mishap

THREE people died in a road mishap involving a pick-up truck and a sports car along the national highway in Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City, Wednesday dawn, August 28, 2019.

Police identified the fatalities as Rhett Lester Ang Gaeid, 21, resident of Corrales; Cameron Lilli Madrid, 21, and Louise Gail Lagman, 20.

Investigation disclosed that the Toyota MRS sports car driven by Gaeid along with his two female companions was coming from Gusa towards the city proper while the Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Jose Georlin, 49, resident of 6th Division, Patag was going towards Tagoloan town.

Investigators said the sports car suddenly swerved and made a turn causing the truck to hit the passenger side of the sports car.

Police Major Evan Viñas, spokesperson of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said the sports car was moving at high speed as evident on the skid mark on the road.

Due to the impact, the three were stuck and pressed inside the car.

The three were rushed to the hospital but Gaeid and Madrid were declared dead on arrival. Lagman died after two hours of fighting for her life.

Viñas said the pick-up truck driver is under police custody and will likely face reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and damage to property charges.
