TEAM Cebu City Muay Thai had another successful Batang Pinoy stint after an 11-medal haul, putting up a better finish this year after winning three golds, five silvers and three bronze medals in the Muay Thai event that ended on Aug 27, 2019 in Palawan.
“I’m happy with what our athletes have shown,” Muay Thai Association of the Philippines-Cebu president Benigno “Ekin” Caniga told SunStar Cebu. “They really were impressive, especially our new athletes who are from the grassroots program. I didn’t expect that they would show that type of courage despite it being their first time and up against more experienced opponents.”
Team Cebu City also snagged 11 medals last year - three golds, four silvers and four bronzes.
Jemarie Josh Ybañez won another gold for Cebu City after dominating the 14-15 years old 51KG category. Zion Alexander Melecio (14-15 years old 57KG) and Buen Algono V (12-13 years old 32KG) were the other gold medalists.
The silver medal winners are Prime Jedrek Melocoton (14-15 63.5KG), Showne Michael Suan (12-13 years old 32 KG), John Ronald Puso (14-15 years old 42KG), Dave Cortez (14-15 years old 36KG) and John Francis Almario (12-13 years old 52KG).
The team’s bronze medal winners are Renwel Mark Alforque (12-13 years old 54KG, Hans Vincent Concepcion (10-11 years old 34KG) and Edgar Caburnay Jr. (14-15 years old 36KG).
“I’m satisfied with what they have done even though three of them just finished with a bronze. They still showed a lot of promise,” Caniga added. (EKA)
