Prices of leafy vegetables down

PRICES of vegetables in the Cordillera region decline due to the increased production in the first quarter of the year.

Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Cordillera revealed prices of leafy vegetables such as cabbage dropped from P19.39 to P14.75, cauliflower from P50.84 to P24.69, lettuce from P61.22 to P50.62 and native pechay from P30.98 to P25.58 per kilo while celery, and pechay prices increase.

Prices of beans and legumes also decreased with string beans from P26.92 to P25.48 and sweet peas, from P80.91 to P65.75 per kilo.

Roots and tuber vegetables also decline with the average farm gate prices of carrots down from P25.27 to P17.25 and white potato from P30.39 to P22.85.

Meanwhile, sweet potato prices increased from P18.88 to P26.38 and cassava from P11.29 to P11.81.

For fruit vegetables, ampalaya prices decreased from P32.26 to P26.01, squash from P22.57 to P16.62, and tomato from P19.71 to P12.97 while prices of chayote increased from P6.99 to P15.2 and long eggplant from P21.06 to P21.58.

PSA-Cordillera added the changes in the average farm gate prices of condiments such as native ginger, onion leeks, bell pepper fluctuated.

With the decrease production of fruits, prices increased this include banana (bungulan) up from P15.82 to P24.23, lakatan from P25.41 to P37.59, latundan from P13.29 to P23.6, calamansi from P19.18 to P28.72 per kilogram.

In livestock and poultry, the average price increased from the first three months of the year compared to last year as price of cattle went up from P118.66 to P122.21, hogs from P117.36 to P120.03, goat from P107.81 to P120.06, chicken native from P142.87 to P176.71 and duck from P139.12 to P161.22 per kilogram.

The Farm Prices Survey is a nationwide household-based monthly survey designed to gather data on farm gate prices by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce. The survey seeks to gather reliable price information at the farm level.
