Cuenco: Favorite bedtime lotions

NOW that rainy season is finally here after that broiling summer, I have switched back to my heavier body moisturizers. During the summer, I always go for lighter, water based formulas or when it’s too hot, I skip lotion altogether. The rest of the year, though, I am a lotion addict, and I never skip it at bedtime, even if I don’t sleep with the AC on. Here are some of my favorites that I keep in rotation.

• Palmer’s Cocoa Butter moisturizing body oil

Okay, so this isn’t a lotion, but it does come in a body butter, which Palmer’s is most famous for. This body oil is really nice if you want something lighter and more fast absorbing than the body butter, which is very rich.

• Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant lotion

This contains micro droplets of Vaseline petroleum jelly and cocoa butter to heal dry skin and make it all smooth and glowy. I feel like the formula is thinner now than it was when I first started using this eight years ago, but it suits our tropical climate better. As something that is available at Watsons and the supermarket, it is also affordable, so it’s less painful on the wallet when it’s time to repurchase.

• Bath and Body Works body cream

Bath and Body Works offers every imaginable feel-good fragrance out there. If you want something scented and still ultra moisturizing for bedtime, their ultra shea body cream is a dream to slather on.

• The Body Shop body butter

I have been using this range on and off for almost 20 years. It’s the best for softening the skin, and any variety smells amazing. If you find this too heavy (and admittedly, pricey) to use all over the body, it’s great for just the hands and feet, too.
