Driver in road accident that kills 3 under hospital arrest

A POLICE commander said Thursday, August 29, that the driver of a pick-up truck involved in a road accident Wednesday dawn, August 28, that killed three people has been placed under hospital arrest.

Police Major Julius Clark Macariola, Police Station 3 chief, said the 49-year-old businessman, Jose Georlin, of Barangay Patag, was admitted to the hospital after complaining of chest pains. He was later placed under police custody.

Georlin was driving his Chevrolet pick-up truck when it crashed into the Toyota MRS sports car that swerved and made a sudden turn along the national highway in Barangay Gusa around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

He was the only survivor in the accident.

The sports car driver, Rhett Lester Ang Gaeid, and his two companions, Cameron Lilli Madrid and Louise Gail Lagman, died after being crushed inside the car, police said.

Macariola said Georlin might have also complained of chest pains due to the impact of the crash.

"Nag-complain og chest pain ang driver sa pick-up. Siguro tungod sa accident," Macariola said.

"Maghulat pa mi sa doctor kung unsa ang period sa iyang admission," he added.

Macariola said some police personnel were detailed to provide security for Georlin in the undisclosed hospital in the city.

Investigators are still waiting for the relatives of the three fatalities to file criminal charges.

Macariola said should the families pursue the filing of charges, Georlin might face reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property charges.
