Khok: Peanuts Realm

PEOPLE expect good food on their table realm. By good food, canr.msu.edu defines it as anything healthy, green fair and affordable. I call this the Peanuts Realm: It is a small and compact definition but nutritious enough for possible interpretations or applications.

This definition has demolished my nephew Pannon’s idea of what good food is: hot dogs, burgers, chicken wings and spaghetti, preferably served together on one plate.

Expectations are high when it comes to food because these victuals fuel the body, brain and good feelings. After a meal composed of what you believe is The Good Food (evil and contrary to the cardiologist’s prescription), you walk out on the streets, feeling you can conquer enemies as Wave would.

(Wave is the latest superhero to join Marvel’s stable of beings who have powers beyond the human realm. She is featured in Marvel’s “War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas.”)

The superhero, who was created by Greg Pak and Pinoy Leinil Francis Yu, is the first Marvel denizen who takes roots from the Philippines. According to the buzz, either Angel Locsin or Nadine Lustre is eyed for the role. However, my friend Vikki and I think Pia Wurtzbach is the better choice to suit up for the role.

But hey, this is flying away from the realm of food. Well, watching movies and animation pair well with food, so I think I can get away with talking about something out of the realm of food.

The ability to choose what is good for the body is a superhuman power. You might have the brains of Einstein, so you understand what is healthy, green fair and affordable. But when faced with super villains known as “Tri-Ene Mineses” named Sexy Lechon, Adorable Adobo and Husky Humba, you weaken as would Superman when hit with kryptonite.

Nothing can save you from your own handiwork except the waving finger of your grandma or mama. “It’s a no-no, Honey. Better eat your vegetables” rings in your ear whenever you commit the grievous sin of eating fatty, sweet and verboten food. Unless you obey the old folks, you will never find the definition of good food is in your realm.

Truly, life is not about eating. We were not created to eat or be eaten but to rule over the world. This is what fans of Wave hope.

“I hope she gets a good exposure,” Vikki said and she was not talking about semi-nude scenes.

So, silly me, this is where Peanuts Realm led me to. Hanging prepositions aside, I think I did well this week.
