THE Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) is finally extending its services in Apalit, Pampanga by June 2020.

This was gleaned during the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the university administration and the local and provincial governments on Thursday, August 29, for the establishment of a satellite campus in Apalit.

Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr. said a two-storey building will be constructed in a 12,074-square-meter lot in Barangay Sampaloc and will serve as the initial campus of DHVSU Apalit.

The property, which will also accommodate the proposed extension of the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital, was donated by the family of Tetangco to pursue the plans of establishing the said public facilities.

"It was months ago that we dreamt of bringing DHVSU to our town to finally provide the quality tertiary education needed by our youth here in Apalit and since then, we have exhausted all possible and impossible efforts to realize that dream and today, we are a step closer to that," he said.

Tetangco added that the local government will allocate some P25 million, while the Provincial Government will provide another P25 million counterpart for the construction of the school building.

DHVSU president Enrique Baking, for his part, said the establishment of the DHVSU satellite campus in Apalit is in line with the university's goal of extending its services closer to all Kapampangan youth.

He said it will also help in decongesting the current 20,339 students at the DHVSU main campus in Bacolor town, as the Apalit campus is expected to accommodate at least 1,000 students when it opens next year.

He also said the initial courses eyed to be offered during its opening include Engineering; BS Architecture; BS Business Administration, majors in Marketing, Economics, and Entrepreneurship; BS Education, BE Education, Real Estate Management, and Logistics.
