POLICE Colonel Allen Rae Co led members of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) during a voter’s registration spearheaded by the Commission on Elections (Comelec)–Baguio.
Co said this was his first time to register again as a voter after not voting for how many years since his entry to the Philippine National Police Academy 24 years ago.
“The last time that I exercised my right to cast my vote was in 1995 before I entered the academy. This joint undertaking is a result of our collaboration with the Commission on Elections of Baguio for our Police personnel to register and exercise their right to cast their vote for the coming elections,” Co said.
Meanwhile, Baguio City election supervisor John Paul Martin is optimistic that they will surpass the 80 percent target voters’ registration in Baguio City.
“We have observed in the past that few voters goes to our office to register as a voter, this is the reason why we opted to bring the services of our office to the people through our satellite registration and also through the voter care center project of the Commission,” Martin stated.
Comelec Baguio conducts off site registration through its satellite registration program which seeks to bring the commission closer to the voting public.
Martin assured that despite talks of possible cancellation of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) or Youth Council Elections next year, the registration will still pursue as this is a scheduled activity of the Commission.
“This August 1 to September 30 is a scheduled registration period for the May 2020 Barangay and SK Elections, so just the same, the registration will continue.
All those who will register this registration period will still be approved as voters even if this 2020 Elections will not pursue since they will be approved as voters for the next Presidential elections in 2022,” Martin added.
To date, Comelec conducted six satellite registrations in the city with scheduled satellite voter’s registration until the second week of September.
