Y-Speak: Living the dream

CINDERELLA said it best when she said “a dream is a wish your heart makes”. The moment I heard this, I believed it right away. Up to this day I still do even if it came straight from a fairy tale.

I think that this is because our purest thoughts and desires are from the heart. So for the longest time I have always listened to it and believed in my dreams no matter how impossible they seemed. In working hard to fulfill each of them, I flew the coop and left my comfort zone to see just exactly where they would take me. I imagined it would lead me to a foreign country but instead it lead me to Davao.

I moved here two years ago to pursue a marketing job which I would’ve later discovered to be a short-lived career. By some twist of fate, I stumbled upon my company now and was hired as the executive assistant of the vice president for sales and marketing. The company I am working for is considered a business process outsourcing firm because of its nature. Our services are outsourced by our clients abroad so I had already accepted the fact that I would just be working behind a computer screen and over the phone. But recently my boss took me with her on a business trip to Singapore and that’s when my life changed.

While in Singapore, I got the chance to meet with our clients and see firsthand how my work back in that little cubicle of mine was helping multi-national companies succeed greatly in what they do. I also got the chance to be amidst chief executive officers and global executives to exchange ideas with them. I proudly represented our company and the Philippines. I also got to explore a different culture and enjoy South East Asian cuisines to the fullest.

I had been dreaming of that moment for 28 years and it finally happened. I went home with an upgraded job title and a heart just full of gratitude and joy for that experience of a lifetime. And I have realized that no matter where you are in life right now, no matter how far off or you may be from your heart’s desires, just continue to believe in your dreams because one way or another through sheer determination, patience, hard work, Divine intervention or a stroke of good luck, they can and will come true too!
