Search for missing teens scour La Union

SATURDAY, August 31 marks the 18th day of an unrelenting search for two missing teens from La Trinidad, Benguet.

La Trinidad operatives met with Bagulin town leaders in La Union last week headed by Bagulin mayor Virgilio Flor who accommodated the highland search team.

Over 50 responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of La Trinidad and Bagulin, with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management council of La Union, have conducted a search of the river covering Bagulin.

However, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda reported there were still no signs of the two teens in the area, noting a 50 kilometer distance from the Gayasi River to the town of Bagulin in La Union.

Harley D. Rufino and Romel A. Tadena were crossing the Gayasi bridge in Barangay Wangal in La Trinidad on a motorcycle, but were swept away by strong water currents which engulfed the bridge during the height of the Southwest Monsoon last August 13.

"Prior to the meeting with Bagulin (and responders), they will continue to search while La Trinidad will continue to search next week on Monday at area of the Gayasi River,” said Salda.

For weeks now, rains hit the province. But, search operations continue for two missing teens in Wangal in La Trinidad suspected to be swept away by strong water current on the evening of August 13 at the height of the Southwest monsoon.

Days after the two went missing, a jacket and a helmet was found followed by a can of motor oil and a backpack believed to be owned by the two missing teenagers.
