HEAVY rains on Sunday, September 1, 2019 have flooded several areas in Metro Cebu due to a trough or extension of Tropical Depression Liwayway.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that downpour will continue until Tuesday, September 3.

In its first storm warning bulletin, Pagasa reported that the low pressure area that entered the country had developed into a tropical depression 405 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 510 kilometers east of Maasin City, Southern Leyte at around 10 a.m.

Liwayway sustained maximum winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (km/h) near its center and gusts of up to 55 km/h, moving northwest at 20 km/h.

Based on the Pagasa forecast, Liwayway is less likely to make a landfall.

Pagasa Visayas officer-in-charge Al Quiblat said that the weather bureau will not declare any signal warning in Central Visayas.

Based on the data collected by Pagasa Mactan station from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, rains of up to 15 milimeters, or equivalent to 75,000 drums of water, fell in Cebu. (HBL of Superbalita Cebu;JGS)
