Besao becomes latest town under Kalahi program

BESAO, Mt. Province -- The municipality of Besao, Mt. Province is the new recipient of an anti-poverty project of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

It will also be possibly included in another anti-poverty projects Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The Kalahi-CIDSS Project will be expanded in the next three years and will include an additional 16 municipalities nationwide from its 184 original coverage.

Adding 16 more to the original municipalities was a directive from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during her September 15 visit in Arakan, North Cotabato last year.

In CAR, the project originally covered 13 municipalities from the provinces of Abra, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mountain Province.

Meanwhile, 4Ps is a poverty reduction strategy of the government that invests on human capital such as health, education, and nutrition through a conditional cash transfer program. Beneficiaries will receive cash grants as long as they comply with the program’s conditions. (PR)
