DAVAO Strikers Football Club (FC) survived past Tagum United FC, 2-1, in their finals encounter Sunday, September 1, to capture the boys 13-under title of the 2nd RLG Football Festival 2019 at Monkayo Central Elementary School in Monkayo, Compostela Valley.
The Murphy Jake Somosot-coached Davao Strikers advanced to the championship match unbeaten in six games. They defeated Nabunturan FC, 1-0, in the semifinals after beating Maco, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.
During the elimination round, Somosot's wards crushed fellow Davao City team Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC), 3-0, following a 2-0 win over New Bataan Ford FC, 1-1 draw with Nabunturan United FC and 1-0 victory over Cyrex United FC in the Seven-A-Side Football Tournament.
Davao Strikers FC was composed of Alexander Acojedo, Prince Baculot, Charlie Gascon, Jasper Esclamado, Michael John Penafiel, Josh Abendan, Kurt Quirante, Cesar Opsima and Joseph Michael Macahig.
The club was established to provide opportunities to young players who could not afford to pay monthly dues to join other football clubs.
Meanwhile, the 2nd RGL Football Festival 2019 was organized in celebration of the 66th founding anniversary of the Municipality of Monkayo in partnership of the Camp Kalaw Football Club and in cooperation with the Golden Davao Regional Football Association.
